I wanted a peek into what the bad guys at the major labels are up to. Turns out they throw so much money into google adwords campaigns for their &quot;big&quot; artists with so little return, there is literally no money left to fund bands that aren&#39;t Lady Gaga, Kesha, or U2. <br /><br />I asked the panelists after the session what their advice would be for indie bands and basically the other 90% of artists out there that aren&#39;t getting any marketing attention by their labels. By contrast, I saw Dandy Warhols in November and was converted into a huge fan of theirs by how good their live show is. First, I love that you posted your best of 2010 in February, because I have yet to do mine. Now I don&#39;t feel so bad. It&#39;s hard to balance life, family, work and a Best Of list! A lot of pressure! Apparently you can take the pressure a little more than I can. <br /><br />I heard a few tracks by Old 97s and Drive By Truckers. Liked the latter a lot. Neko Case is about as far as I&#39;ll ever go into the &quot;alt country&quot; or whatever the new term is sound, and Old 97s are just a bit too much for me.<br /><br />I love Escovedo but don&#39;t own anything - need to correct this oversight.<br /><br />Am I misunderstanding your list, or is Cee Lo your top track? Didn&#39;t sound like you were too into him at the beginning of your post. I like his voice, and of course it&#39;s fun to sing &#39;fuck you&#39; (and who hasn&#39;t needed a song like that), but I don&#39;t really get the big deal about him overall.<br /><br />Your insights and observations on the music industry seem completely spot on to me. And how hard it is to make a career of it I&#39;ve seen with friends. As easy as it is to produce a track and get exposure these days, that&#39;s how hard it is to stay in the spotlight. I&#39;ve seen so many great bands come and go (great labels, too) mostly because they couldn&#39;t maintain any traction.
